I'm sure this chair is no stranger to you- you've probably seen it in some evolutionary form or another. The chair originated in 1955 and was designed by Eero Saarinen. His goal was to "
clear up the slum of legs in the U.S. home"- as recorded in
Time magazine in 1956. The inspiration- quite obviously- is the fluidity of a tulip flower. The design was extremely experimental for its time and since its debut has been considered a classic.
The chair's smooth lines portrays a futuristic feel and landed a spot on the original Star Trek series.
The past 55 years have seen much change and progress in the chair's design, as it remains an innovative classic.
